Self-adhesive waste no problem for RWM 250

Self-adhesive waste no problem for RWM 250
Lancaster-based Metamark UK Ltd is the country’s leading manufacturer and supplier of self-adhesive vinyl signage, digital media and speciality materials for cutting and printing.
This 20 year old company has grown to become renowned worldwide as a high quality and reliable partner in the materials arena, and the team is dedicated to fostering long-term, honest relationships with customers across the globe.
So when production controller Mark Blamire set out to look for a provider of waste baling technology, the standards he expected were high.
Background:
Metamark is a reputable name within the digital and signage media industry. Committed to reducing the organisation’s environmental footprint as far as it practically can, Metamark works with sustainable raw materials, conserves energy and recycles wherever possible.
Incredibly aware of the UK’s growing landfill problem and impending EU targets, Metamark supports the country’s green agenda by turning waste into useful second-life products. As part of this strategy, Metamark requires a waste baler.
The Challenge:
Already an owner of waste baling technology, Metamark sought to upgrade its lift open top Pakawaste press. Metamark’s waste handling contractor – an experienced operator within this forward-thinking industry – recommended that Mark speak to Riverside to hear the team’s specialist thoughts.
Mark was looking for a reliable and cost-effective piece of kit with industry-proven capabilities. Customer service and after-sales support and maintenance was also paramount for Metamark, given the company’s ethos to develop strong relationships with clients and suppliers alike.
The Solution:
Based on the requirements that Mark elaborated upon, Jonathan worked with Metamark to devise the best-fit solution for the organisation’s needs. Riverside went so far as to install and trial machinery at the Metamark manufacturing site to ensure recommendation robustness. It soon became clear that the RWM 250 perfectly fulfilled the specification Mark had set out.
The Results:
Describing the RWM 250 Mark comments: “This machine is a wonderful piece of kit, and we have had no issues whatsoever with it since it was installed 18 months ago.”
Metamark is now producing 1000 x 1200 x 800mm bales of end-of-roll self-adhesive vinyl waste. A £15 discount is provided by Metamark’s waste handling contractor for every tonne of baled recyclables they remove from the site for recycling.
Having recently expanded the shop floor by 10,000 sqft, Metamark has increased its productive output, which means a heightened volume of waste needs to be handled responsibly, efficiently and cost-effectively.
Mark has conducted a cost-benefit analysis to provide financial justification for a second baler.  Not only would an additional machine continue to support the company’s landfill diversion strategy; Mark has also concluded that another medium-sized machine would help Metamark reduce operator downtime when rolling waste off the back of production machinery and transporting it to the current baler. The aim is to therefore install another RWM vertical press within the next couple of months.
