From the archives: Print business chooses Riverside baler

Last year, we brought you the story that specialists trade sign and graphics installation company Mida Sign Services has invested in a new waste baler from Riverside Waste Machinery, for its print and graphics department.

So what exactly were the drivers for this purchase? And why did the Northern business choose our technology? We’ve pulled one of our most read 2014 stories from the archives, to recap…

The Ashton under Lyne Company was filling up to twelve 240 litre receptacles with packaging waste every day, costing the firm £1200 a year in two larger 1100 litre bin collections. But Mida no longer needs the 1100 litre bins, thanks to its investment in an RWM75 vertical waste baler.

This compact baling press – which was commissioned in October – now transforms all of Mida’s cardboard, paper and other packaging waste, into manageable 75kg bales. This volume reduction strategy has evident financial benefits, plus the site is now much tidier with no waste storage headaches.

When considering the reason for the investment, Mida’s owner Mike Smith commented: “As a business we strive to become ever-more efficient, so procuring a waste baler had been on our minds for some time. However, when we visited one of our peers in North Yorkshire, and saw the benefits they were experiencing thanks to a Riverside waste baler, this encouraged us to invest in our own recycling solution sooner rather than later.

“The RWM75 is incredibly easy to use, and is already a hit with the guys in our team. What’s more, it will have paid for itself in less than two years, even if we consider the 1100 litre bin collection savings alone.”

Whilst Riverside offers a variety of flexible finance options, this successful business has chosen to purchase the baler outright. Mike explains: “The price was very reasonable, and the robustness of Riverside’s products and customer service came highly recommended. To buy the asset, rather than rent it, therefore made perfect sense.”

Riverside’s managing director Jonathan Oldfield concludes: “Mida Sign Services is a very well-established yet innovative business, always looking to the future in terms of the products they provide to their own customers. To be able to advise them on a waste handling solution – tailored to their needs and designed to help them work even smarter – is exactly what our waste consultancy expertise is here for!”
