Yorkshire business turns to neighbouring Riverside for new waste balers

Riverside Waste Machinery

North Yorkshire based Belzona is no stranger to baling. In fact the well-established business has been compacting its cardboard and plastic waste for more than 20 years. But when the company’s existing technology was no longer fit for purpose, Warehouse Team Leader Etienne Vickers turned to waste machinery specialist Riverside.

Riverside’s nearby location less than 15 miles away was an instant attraction. But upon speaking to managing director and experienced baling specialist Jonathan Oldfield, they soon realised the working relationship could prove beneficial for other reasons too.

Belzona had originally thought they needed three new machines for their Harrogate facility, but having digested the client’s requirements, Jonathan knew two compact RWM 75 waste balers would fit the bill. With a 3.5 tonne press force, this baling technology could handle the client’s card and plastic waste with ease. But an innovative can insert in one would also enable Belzona to press tins and steel drums of up to 30 litres in size – a material stream which, until that point, had proven tougher to handle.

Now, achieving a compaction ratio of 6:1, Belzona can quickly bale all its packaging and production waste, alleviating storage issues and ensuring a tidier, safer working environment for staff. Throughput volumes vary depending upon the projects being worked on at any one time, but the team will typically produce two cardboard and plastic bales per week with one RWM75, whilst pressing 30-40 drums per day in the other. All materials are collected for recycling, to uphold Belzona’s commitment to environmentally responsible business practice.

Commenting on the investment, Etienne said: “We have been very pleased with Riverside’s approach to business, from day one. The quality of customer service is excellent, a four day lead time was brilliant, installation and training was of the highest standard. The machines are as easy to use as we had hoped, they fulfil our brief entirely, plus they’ve been supplied with a 24 month warranty for added peace of mind.”

Belzona has purchased both machines outright, each with a service contract. Etienne concludes: “We very much believe in preventative maintenance to protect the balers from unnecessary wear and tear, optimise the ongoing running condition of the machines, and maximise our investment longevity. These baling presses will be an integral part of our waste handling infrastructure, for years to come.”
